Overview:
Metropolitan (referred to as Metro by almost everyone) is a divey, neighborhood-y, boisterous gay bar that has been a staple of Williamsburg queer nightlife (and happy hour life) since 2002. You get what you pay for at Metro – a strong pour – that isn’t offensively priced. It’s casual, familiar, and relaxed. There’s a pool table, a big backyard that’s full of gays during the summer and randomly warm days, smokers during the winter, and an elevated dance floor indoors that’s filled with a rotation of drag queens, gogo boys, and twinks at any given moment
Metro is a place where you can meet up with friends at 5:00pm for Happy Hour when you skip out on work a little early, go to see a drag show at midnight, or end the night with a nightcap at 3AM. It’s versatile, fun, and accommodates large groups of friends.
Their infamous summer Sunday BBQ (Memorial Day through Labor Day) has outdoor drag shows, hot dogs, and hamburgers, hosted by Metro’s very own Merrie Cherry with weekly drag queen guests. Ask the bartender for bug spray during the summer months outdoors.
You’ll become friends with your favorite bartender. It’s worth noting, Metropolitan is sisters with Macri Park, another gay bar just a block away, and the staff of each often move back and forth between venues.
