Tis the season… the Broadway season, of course. The 2026-27 season is well under way, with new shows opening left and right. Whether you’re a Broadway baby or a begrudging patron, finding affordable tickets for live theater can prove to be extremely difficult. A new website called Broadway Cheap Seats is hoping to make that easier.
The site aims to comprehensively track the rush ticket lines for every show on Broadway. As their website states, “Most shows save a few cheap seats until the day of the performance. You can enter the lottery in advance and hope for the best, you can try for standing room at a sold-out show, or you can wait in the rush ticket line on the morning of the show — that’s where we come in.”
Broadway Cheap Seats keeps a live list of every show currently running on Broadway, along with all of their discount ticket programs. Users can file a “rush report” from in line or post-rush to help future users guesstimate when they should get to the rush line to ensure they get a ticket.
Fans of high-demand shows have built communities around helping one another get tickets for generations, notably beginning with the original production of Rent in 1996. In order to give young people access to the phenomenon of a musical, the producers sold the entire front row of the theater day-of at the box office for $20 a ticket. This prompted the so-called Rent-heads to develop a tradition of lining up hours in advance — sometimes even overnight — to get these tickets. Since this innovation, rush or lottery tickets have become standard practice for nearly all Broadway shows. Smash hit shows like Hamilton, Spring Awakening, and The Outsiders have also developed their own fan traditions within their discount ticket lines.
Hopefully, Broadway Cheap Seats will help remove the fear of going home empty handed — or fandom mania — from prospective ticket buyers. If you are interested in using Broadway Cheap Seats to help you purchase discount theater tickets, check it out by clicking here.
