It’s a meeting of the minds with Alexander Wang tapping Ice Spice as the face of their 2024 Spring collection campaign, Nocturna. Both New York staples, the collaboration couldn’t make more sense. Wang attended Parsons School of Design in New York City and left the program after two years to launch his eponymous fashion brand, known for his New York City-inspired designs and use of the color black.
Ice Spice, too, is a New York institution in her own right. Born and raised in the Bronx, she studied at SUNY Purchase and dropped out to pursue a career in music. Her rap career blew up with the release of “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in 2022, which was supported by Drake and went viral on Twitter and TikTok. In 2023, a remix of Taylor Swift’s “Karma” featuring Ice Spice was released, and Swift even brought Ice Spice out to perform during her Eras Tour show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
With the “Princess Diana” rapper leading the campaign, the Nocturna collection fuses the fashion world with the rap world, offering staple ready-to-wear black and leather-heavy pieces. One look shows Ice Spice in lingerie covered by black fishnets, topped off with strappy high heels.
Another look is giving biker but make it fashion, with Ice Spice sporting a black leather jacket over a black crochet bikini set, with black boots, while sitting atop a motorcycle. Speaking to Interview, the rapper said that it was this look that’s the most “Ice Spice.” There’s even an all-denim look (aka, Canadian tuxedo) that the rapper pulls off flawlessly. (The fact that the denim pieces are decked out in hotfix crystals doesn’t hurt, either.)
“As an artist, I’m always challenging myself on how I can contribute to culture in a way that drives things forward, and Alexander Wang is a great vehicle for that with this incredibly bold and global campaign,” Ice Spice said in a statement.
Adding to her statement, Wang noted that “Ice Spice is such a powerhouse, a cultural touchstone, and a breath of fresh air. Her unapologetic energy magnifies the sharp and austere sensuality of Spring 2024 and leans into our brand codes on a deeper level.”
Wang didn’t show at this season’s New York Fashion Week, so this campaign is most people’s introduction to the Nocturna collection. With Ice Spice’s co-sign, there’s no doubt that the collection will be a huge hit in both the fashion and music worlds.
