the number of pride flags proudly displayed throughout, from residential homes to storefronts,
underscoring the town’s inclusive spirit.
Asbury Park’s evolution into an LGBTQ-friendly destination has deep roots in its creative and
progressive ethos. In the mid-20th century, it emerged as a safe space for artists, musicians,
and LGBTQ individuals who sought a community that valued uniqueness and creativity. This
sense of acceptance has only grown stronger over the years. The town is also known for its
legendary music scene, highlighted by The Stone Pony. Since opening in 1974, this venue has
launched the careers of rock icons, including Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, becoming a
must-visit for music enthusiasts who come to experience the area’s rock-and-roll legacy
firsthand.

For accommodations, the St. Laurent Social Club is a chic, modern gathering space and hotel
with vintage flair. Located within a beautifully restored historic building, it combines boutique
accommodations, a coffee bar, a full-service restaurant, and a pool, creating an ambiance of
effortless luxury. The St. Laurent is just a short walk from both the Asbury Park boardwalk and
the downtown district, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and socializing. The club’s
restaurant highlights seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients, offering a delightful dining
experience that embodies the area’s culinary creativity and commitment to quality.
Another local gem is Catsbury Park, a non-profit cat café that has won the hearts of locals and
visitors. Opened in 2017, Catsbury Park is a charming blend of community and animal welfare,
where guests can enjoy coffee and snacks while meeting adoptable cats. During our visit, we
enjoyed a lively round of cat bingo in their kitten room—an unforgettable experience, especially
when the cats decided to join in! Beyond its cozy atmosphere, Catsbury Park serves as an
adoption center, working closely with shelters to find homes for rescue cats, making it a must-
visit for animal lovers.
A key attraction in Asbury Park is its famous boardwalk, a coastal stretch that balances
nostalgic charm with contemporary appeal. Lined with shops, restaurants, and entertainment
spots, the boardwalk offers beachgoers and art lovers a dynamic experience. As you stroll along
its wooden paths, you’re treated to panoramic ocean views on one side and a bustling scene of
art, culture, and local cuisine on the other.
The boardwalk is a hub of creativity, with murals and public art installations that showcase
Asbury Park’s artistic pulse. Boutiques sell everything from handcrafted goods to surf
essentials, giving visitors a chance to support small businesses. Food options abound, from

A walk along the boardwalk isn’t complete without stopping by Madam Marie’s Temple of
Knowledge, a psychic booth that has become a staple of Asbury Park’s folklore. Madam Marie,
born Marie Castello, was a beloved figure who provided psychic readings for decades to locals,
tourists, and celebrities alike, eventually gaining mention in Bruce Springsteen’s “4th of July,
Asbury Park (Sandy).” Though she passed away in 2008, her booth continues to operate, run by
her descendants who offer tarot and other spiritual services, preserving her legacy.
