The light pink retro exterior and nostalgic hotel sign on this corner building in Bushwick have always caught Photographer Shane Reynolds’ attention as a potential shoot location. When fellow artists and models Silas Waller and Carlos Sanchez-Tata were in town, the three collaborated to produce some compelling work.
The series explores themes of cruising nostalgia and 1980s New York City. On a hot afternoon, with $75 cash securing them four hours in a room, the trio produced some provocative art. Dimly lit hallways, assless chaps, mid-2000s polos, and Addison Rae’s latest album playing in the background set the tone for the shoot.
The wardrobe was a collaborative effort, featuring pieces from Alfinavaron, FANG.NYC, Zana Bayne, and a handmade shoestring thong crafted by Silas himself. Each of them selected and styled their own gay inspired wardrobe pieces from a collection laid out on the bed.
Each shoot member wears many hats in addition to their roles in this project—Silas is a clothing consignor, adult content creator, and go-go dancer. Carlos brings his incredible talent as a painter based in Miami, while Shane is a nightlife promoter as well as a bartender at NYC’s longstanding iconic gay bar, The Boiler Room.
