A new crush can hit just like a great pop song. The sticky-sweet thought of what could be gets stuck in your head. Typically, though, the sugar high can’t last. On LA-based electronic pop artist The Nico Show’s effervescent new single “bby boy,” he captures the ecstatic rush of a new romantic fixation. His feverish vocals convey a naive flirtatiousness that feels compelling in contrast to his self-evident charisma. While “bby boy” finds Nico in yearning, his aura still emanates a takes-no-prisoners affect. Like Beyoncé, his forebearer in Baby Boy-dom, his cool factor assures the listener that he will have no problem shacking up with said object of affection.
Though clearly from 2020s pop savant PinkPantheress’s toolkit, Nico and producer Samjgarfield manage to concoct something deeply singular. The sturdy drum and bass groove propels Nico’s romantic ruminations forward as he swerves through varying pick-up tactics and melodic flows. By the time he rattles off a sensual bar like, “Praying I can be your OnlyFans collab / Ain’t mad at that,” the listener may find themselves so entranced that they just might consider it.
Such a delightful banger can’t come as a surprise to anyone who has been following The Nico Show’s music. His club-ready 2025 single “DIE4U” laid the groundwork for the excellence to come with “bby boy.” But where past singles led with hedonistic passion, “bby boy’”s saccharine sheen gives it a much-appreciated lightness.
Nico has been making waves around the LA queer scene with recent performances at The Wild and Revolver. His social media captures his sleek sense of style and mesmerizing persona. Nico also hosts Grindr’s New Music FriGAY program, which highlights exciting releases from queer artists. “bby boy” extends his streak of great singles and solidifies him as an artist to watch. In his best batch of sugary-pop confection yet, The Nico Show has made a treat that continues to satisfy.
