New York-based designer Fang Guo presented FANG NYC’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection at New York Fashion Week, conceptualized around the image of a bionic dancer and the relationship between the human body, clothing, movement, and technology.
Drawing from science fiction and fantasy cinema, the collection takes particular inspiration from Alex Garland’s Ex Machina. At a time when artificial intelligence is more relevant than ever, Guo explores the tension between man and machine, organic and synthetic, using clothing to bring seemingly opposing elements into dialogue. The film’s sense of eco-brutalism—stark concrete, modernist architecture set against the lush landscape of the Swiss Alps—further informs the collection’s meeting of the industrial and organic.
The human skeleton becomes a central point of reference, translated into bionic and geometric forms through innovative knitwear. FANG NYC develops a novelty knit stitch that highlights the skeletal structure by contrasting vertical and horizontal ribbing, tracing and framing the body in graphic formations. A plating technique contrasts dual tones across the surface, creating an optical illusion that evokes futurism and a technical world. Elsewhere, chunky ribbing creates a distinctly three-dimensional effect, with raised surfaces at the front and concave forms at the back, resulting in pieces that feel sculptural, almost “trippy,” as they shift around the body.
Against this structure, softer silken, drapey, and layered knits introduce the feminine and romantic side of FANG NYC. Constructed with a base structure and a semi-attached top layer, the pieces allow the fabric to move independently, bringing fluidity and softness to the otherwise engineered silhouettes.
The collection’s woven pieces continue FANG NYC’s commitment to workwear and specialized sportswear, introducing utilitarian details as a counterpoint to the softness of the knitwear. Double-knee carpenter silhouettes return in substantial twill suiting, blending formal and casual dressing, while equestrian attire is reimagined through denim and leather. The collection also marks FANG NYC’s first exploration of tailored suiting, with blazers and vests bringing a new precision to the brand’s vocabulary.
Dance is reflected throughout the collection in a recurring A-line shape, appearing across dresses and skirts and bringing volume and movement to the body. Together, these elements create a wardrobe that moves between the anatomical and the abstract, the utilitarian and the sensual, the futuristic and the instinctive.

Born and raised in Beijing, studied at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and now residing in New York, Fang has a deep curiosity and yearning to understand diverse cultures, perspectives, and aesthetics.
