Overview of The Nines
Walking into The Nines feels like you’re walking into another world. It has many of the markers of “old New York,” but with a touch of modern cool that’s hard to put your finger on. It’s both uptown and downtown. There’s red and velvet and plush cushions everywhere, and the vibes are at once intimate and luxe. There’s a hush over The Nines even at its most crowded, and yet there’s almost always live piano wafting through the air.
While there’s an air of exclusivity that’s easy to roll your eyes at (For example, you can’t get past the curtain that separates the front bar area without a host escorting you to your table, even if the people you’re there to meet are already sitting down), it also feels fun to be part of once you’re there. There are dates and groups of friends and parents visiting their grown-up kids, nibbling on complimentary olives and nuts, delicious small plates and signature drinks.
Why go to The Nines?
You go to The Nines for a special night; for crisp martinis or cocktails containing giant ice cubes inscribed with 9’s; for their signature caviar service or a bite of their killer burger. You go to drink and eat these things while you listen to someone very skillfully play piano in the background and then realize minutes into a song that they’re playing a top 40 hit. You go to do all of this surrounded by a genuinely gorgeous atmosphere and a cool crowd.
It’ll cost you a pretty penny, but most special dining experiences do these days. This is one you’ll actually remember, look back fondly on and want to return with another group of friends.
Ambiance of The Nines?
It feels rich and cool and old school and original all at the same time. If you come around dinner time, you’ll get a more laid-back, buttoned-up fun experience. If you come during the later hours, it’ll likely be a bit more loose, while still maintaining its quintessential reserve.
