Every streaming platform has their star players that bring viewers in. For Netflix it’s Stranger Things and Bridgerton. Hulu has The Bear and American Horror Story. But some franchises are so popular and powerful that they shine too bright on a shared stage, and instead require their very own streaming platform. This is the case with WOW Presents Plus, your one-stop shop for all things Drag Race, and more!
So, should you sashay away from WOW Presents Plus, or is it here to shantay you stay? Here’s everything you need to know about the streaming service.
What is WOW Presents Plus?
Owned by production company World of Wonder, WOW Presents Plus (or World of Wonder Presents Plus, or WOWPresents+) is a subscription-based streaming service focused on RuPaul’s Drag Race and other original LGBT series. Founded in 2017, WOW Presents Plus offers many of the versions of RuPaul’s Drag Race from around the world and its various spin-offs. Subscribers can also download episodes for offline viewing.
Beyond Drag Race, WOW Presents Plus offers shows like UNHhhh, the comedy web series starring drag queens Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova. Although UNHhhh is on YouTube, WOW Presents Plus subscribers can get episodes a week in advance.
There’s also Drag Tots, a WOW Presents Plus exclusive animated kid-friendly show about drag queen toddlers voiced by familiar Drag Race queens like Valentina, Latrice Royale, and Bianca Del Rio. Corny the Unicorn is voiced by RuPaul.
WOW Presents Plus also offers Drag Race after shows and LGBT-focused documentaries like Dressed as a Girl and Andy Warhol: Interviews. Meanwhile, the docu-series Werq The World offers a “backstage pass” into the world of drag. Each episode focuses on a queen on tour, some of which include Alyssa Edwards, Detox, and Aquaria.
Despite the bountiful offerings of WOW Presents Plus, it’s important to note that while the streaming service hosts multiple versions of Drag Race, it only offers seasons that air outside of your region. In other words, if you live in the United States, you won’t have access to American Drag Race seasons, but instead you can stream international versions of the show. Likewise, if you’re streaming outside of the US, you can watch the American version of Drag Race. But hey, if you’re an American-dwelling Drag Race fan, Drag Race Thailand and Drag Race Holland might be exactly what you’re looking for. (“Sashay” is universal!)
In the US, WOW Presents Plus subscribers can watch the following Drag Race series:
- Canada’s Drag Race
- Canada’s Drag Race vs. The World
- Drag Race Belgique
- Drag Race Brasil
- Drag Race Down Under
- Drag Race España
- Drag Race France
- Drag Race Germany
- Drag Race Holland
- Drag Race Italia
- Drag Race Mexico
- Drag Race Philippines and Untucked
- Drag Race Sverige (Sweden)
- Drag Race Thailand (Season 2)
- RuPaul’s Drag Race UK
With all that, how would you even have time to miss the American version of Drag Race anyway?
How Much Is a Subscription to WOW Presents Plus?
Subscriptions for WOW Presents Plus are $5 per month or $50 yearly for ad-free streaming (after a 7-day free trial). And while that doesn’t include the American version of Drag Race for US-based subscribers, it’s a small price to pay for the international selection of Drag Race seasons available at your fingertips (with subtitles!). Think about it this way: it’s cheaper than a flight and you’ll still feel like you traveled.
Should I Get WOW Presents Plus?
If you’re a die-hard Drag Race fan (is there any other kind?) then yes, it’s definitely worth it. Even without the American seasons, there’s such a prolific library that you won’t even miss them.
If you’re a newer Drag Race fan, the answer is also yes. What better way to become indoctrinated into the cult of Drag Race than with every season from around the world?
While the selection of shows and docs outside of the Drag Race offerings may not be the most substantial, they certainly add to the overall fun of WOW Presents Plus. And it’s never a bad thing to broaden one’s viewing horizon. So ultimately, yes, WOW Presents Plus is definitely worth it if Drag Race is your thing and you’re looking to become even further embedded in the RuPaul universe.
