For National Coming Out Day, the foundation surveyed 9,328 LGBTQ+ adults across the United States on several questions related to social acceptance, openness, and community. The responses highlighted the impacts of LGBTQ+ media on queer people throughout America.
HRC raised questions about community building within the LGBTQ+ community. 65% of respondents said they felt “very or somewhat connected to the LGBTQ+ community.” When asked how they engage with their queer community, the leading response was LGBTQ+ media/news (72% of respondents), followed by LGBTQ+ spaces (55%) and pride/community events (49%). These statistics highlight the integral role of queer media in bringing people together, especially in our hyper digital age.
