Queer artists have always reclaimed the stories meant to silence them. Few are doing it quite like Cain Culto.

The Colombian-Nicaraguan artist has built one of alternative pop’s most distinctive worlds by blending Latin music, Appalachian folk, experimental hip-hop, political commentary, and deeply personal storytelling into something entirely his own. Formerly an evangelical worship pastor, Cain Culto has transformed his experiences with faith, identity, and queerness into an uncompromising body of work that refuses easy categorization.

Now, with more than 400,000 followers across social platforms, over 20 million streams, and a growing list of editorial support and live performances, Culto is quickly becoming one of queer music’s most exciting rising voices.

Born Andrew Padilla, Cain Culto grew up in a Colombian-Nicaraguan household between Florida and Kentucky, immersed in evangelical Christianity. Before launching his solo career, he served as a worship pastor and fronted the Christian band Ecclesia.

Eventually, hiding his sexuality became impossible. Walking away from organized religion led him toward a new artistic identity—one that embraces queerness, spirituality, satire, politics, and Latin heritage all at once.

The name Cain Culto itself references both the biblical Cain and the Spanish word culto (“worship”), reclaiming religious symbolism through a radically queer lens.

In a landscape where pop music often prioritizes trends over perspective, Cain Culto has carved out a lane entirely his own.

His music doesn’t separate queerness from politics, faith, or culture—it allows all of those identities to exist simultaneously. By turning religious trauma into bold visual storytelling and pairing experimental production with deeply personal songwriting, Culto has become one of the most compelling new artists to watch.

For LGBTQ+ audiences looking for music that pushes boundaries without losing emotional honesty, Cain Culto offers something refreshingly original.
