Everything To Know About ‘Heated Rivalry’ On HBO Max

Handsome hockey superstars Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov play with visceral roughness and genuine passion… on the rink, of course.

How they play off the ice is actually not too different, either.

“Heated Rivalry” is the steamy new TV adaptation of the book of the same name by Rachel Reid. Her spicy series follows Hollander and Rozanov as they navigate their explosive connection. A years-long covert relationship develops, exploring how powerful feelings like lust, love, and hate are profoundly intertwined.

The tantalizing Crave original series (now streaming on HBO Max) comes from gay showrunner Jacob Tierney, who delivers a stimulating story with a sexy buzz similar to “Bridgerton” or “Red, White & Royal Blue.” “Heated Rivalry” has the internet buzzing with chemistry-oozing clips of its leads, Connor Storrie and Ilya Rozanov. People are even taking to their main pages to proudly support the show’s no-holds-barred sex scenes.

Here’s everything you need to know about one of the top shows on every gay guy’s watchlist.

Get to Know “Heated Rivalry”

“Heated Rivalry” stars Connor Storrie as the steely Russian Ilya Rozanov, whose rugged attitude and heavily accented sarcasm meet their match in straight-laced Canadian player Shane Hollander, Hudson Williams. As the universe continues to bring the two together for commercial promos, high-stakes games, and elite events in the hockey world, what begins as locker room lust grows even beyond hotel room hookups.

Both men, unsure of anything except their primal desire for each other, launch a years-long secret relationship and genuine rivalry. Perfectionist Hollander always feels second to the superior Rozanov, a dynamic that manifests both in the bedroom and during their embattled careers.

Skate-sharp writing and excellent acting show a slow-burn romance brewing beneath their battered jerseys. Both leads offer much more than impeccable abs and biceps that could move mountains. Their love story embraces queerness as an outlet for liberation, a topic that’s always relevant.

Craving a person who may be your biggest opp is crazy in theory, but these two make the risk seem super worth it.

The intense passion between the two could melt the very ice rinks they skate on. The sex scenes are invigorating and leave little to the imagination. Even the most intimate moments between the two are broadcast and will surely leave you blushing on whatever couch you’re watching.

Like magnets, the gravitational pull between Hollander and Rozanov proves too intense to ignore. They yearn with a passion to absolutely ravage and wreck each other, setting up a unique dichotomy between how they face off in bed versus on the ice. How many mind games are being played when one ghosts the other the night before a championship?

More Than Just A Spicy Story

The actors have been laughing it up on their press tour, showing that their palpable charm isn’t reserved just for the show. Cheeky radio interviews and social videos from the two are encouraging fans not only to watch but also to embrace every bit of “Heated Rivalry’s” sexiness.

The ever-charming Hudson Williams spoke to Pride.com about the show being so well received.

“At the end of the day, I hope it can be this celebratory thing that can join people in their homes getting hot and heavy together hand-holding, leg grabbing, lip biting, sweat permeating, pants tightening, [and] spit swapping,” Williams says.

The show is about much more than sex. The two hockey players are on a similar path that is destined to diverge. Being drafted to rival teams, dealing with long stretches of time between meetups, and having nosy teammates make their undeniable connection come with consequences.

You won’t need to read the books beforehand to enjoy the story, but the six-book series offers greater insight into the minds of both men. Hollander wears his worry on his handsome face, juggling brand deals and trying to be the perfect son. Rozanov has a father who couldn’t care less and a past in Russia to which he’s financially tied. Both actors bring true depth to their roles in a way that elevates the material entirely.

As built-out as they are in the books, it’s clear Williams and Storrie embody both complex men with a care that will delight readers hoping for a faithful adaptation.
