If two gay men offer you a place to sleep in a foreign city, chances are you’re about to have a threesome or you’ve booked a MisterB&B.
MisterB&B, also referred to as MisterBnb or Mrbnb, is essentially gay Airbnb. Founded in 2014 by Matthieu Jost, MisterB&B seeks to provide a safe inclusive stay for LGBTQ+ travelers no matter where they go, but is it legit?
The idea came to him after an uncomfortable stay in Barcelona when the host was uncomfortable with the idea of Jost and his partner sharing a bed. This story was all too common, so Jost decided to create a space where queer people could host one another.
To start booking, set up an account, and you can view hosts by city. Like any app pairing up gay men, there’s a level of thirst involved. All hosts and guests are required to upload photos of themselves, so you have an extra something to consider when booking your stay.
Additionally, you can search by neighborhoods, proximity to gay areas, look for a single room or entire apartment, as well as clothing optional dwellings. If it wasn’t clear, canoodling is definitely on the table. Just looking at some host profiles they read a lot more like a Grindr profile. Best of all, they’re hosting!
Each listing comes with reviews, so you can ensure you’re not wandering into a horror movie situation before you book.
Becoming a host is equally as easy as finding a safe place to stay. You simply click over to their hosting page, and set up a profile for yourself and your space. You’ll list all the amenities like the number of beds, bathrooms, wifi, or whatever else and a short bio about yourself. While there’s obviously charm in meeting travelers and providing them a place to stay, the real joy in hosting is making some extra money. Hosting a gay traveler in a spare bedroom for a weekend can easily make $500. Cheaper for the traveler, and money in the hosts pocket.
The host bios are a godsend, because they can include local favorite spots, restaurant recommendations, and clarity on whether they’re trying to sleep with you. Both hosts and guests receive ratings after their stay so if someone’s a creep or a slob chances are you’ll know before you ever book.
MisterB&B makes the queer world both bigger, and smaller. Bigger in that travelers have more places to stay than ever, and smaller with hosts who are more than happy to show their guests around. So whether you’re hosting or traveling, give MisterB&B a try. It could even result in the world’s most transactional meet-cute if you’re lucky.
